Title:
Target for German Artillery
Date:
1943 December
Description:
The sign, “HELL FIRE LANE” was appropriate; this square in front of the Medical Dressing Station remained under spasmodic German shell fire for months.
While I was fortunately inside the Dressing Station, my ambulance, seen here at the right, picked up a few more shrapnel holes. One piece penetrated one of my books. The truck at the left had taken a direct hit and burned.
Location: Medical Dressing Station, San Vito.
