Canadian First Aid Post, Rough Scene | Archives of the American Field Service and AFS Intercultural Programs
Title:
Canadian First Aid Post, Rough Scene
Date:
1944 March
Description:
My ambulance is at the door to the First Aid Post in the basement of this bombed-out brick builing. Here, the wounded were stabilized for transport back to San Vito.
Note the temporary graves in the foreground and the overturned, blown up German tank on the left side of the building. Even the trees could hardly survive the intense shelling and bombing of the battle for Ortona, which lasted many months.
Location: Near Ortona.
