Administrative/Biographical History
Clayton Curtis Grandy (b. ca. 1890) of Cleveland, Ohio, attended Cornell University. In July 1917 he entered the American Field Service, a volunteer ambulance corps serving with the French Army in World War I. Grandy served with Transport Matériel [Etats-] Unis (TMU) 397, also known as the Réserve Mallet, transporting munitions and supplies to French troops. When the United States (U.S.) entered the war, the AFS was absorbed by the U.S. Army and ceased to exist as an independent organization. At that time, Grandy enlisted with the U.S. Army and served as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Motor Transport Company 369 from November 1917 until May 1919. After the war he held a career in advertising and publishing in Cleveland, Ohio.
